The Accra Metro Director of Education, Alfred Kofi Osei, has denied allegations that school children of Lerato Junior High School at Lartebiokorshie in Accra were refused supplementary answer sheets to write their Integrated Science Exams in the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). Mr. Alfred Kofi Osei tells Asempa News, his investigations indicate that those who needed were given but the candidates were demanding the answer sheets at a wrong time. Speaking in an interview with Asempa News on the alleged refusal by one supervisor, Rita, at the Salvation Army School WEAC Center “B”, to provide supplementary answer sheets to the children, Mr. Osei said if the school is challenging, the Directorate can go to WAEC to prove that the children were given the supplementary sheets. "We don’t give them out like that. We give it when we see you have exhausted your answer sheets. The children misrepresented the information to their parents”, Mr. Osei explained. Mr. Osei said those who needed were given, but “if the school wants, we can go to WAEC and prove that they were given and its attached to their answer sheets”. Meanwhile, some of the children have confirmed to Asempa News that the supervisor, Rita, indeed used abusive words on them when they went for the supplementary sheets. The Proprietress of the School, Gweneolyn De-Veer, called on the Ghana Education Service, Ministry of Education and President Mills to help in their investigations since the school is on the verge of losing. She said the children were given the supplementary papers, but it was late. In a related development, Asempa News visited the Salvation Army Examination Centre B’ and at the time of visit, a police patrol was spotted around the examination centre to ensure that all was well and calm. The Deputy Director of Education in charge of Examinations in Accra, John Amponay who was at the Centre at the time of visit disclosed, that since the matter is being investigated by WAEC, the supervisor in question will not be available to grant an interview. He revealed that the said papers in question will be taken to WAEC for further investigations and a statement will be issued later. Story: Kwaku Antwi-Otoo & Efua Enos/Asempa FM
