The Africa Center for Energy Policy (ACEP) has cautioned the newly-appointed Power Minister to avoid acts that would politicise the new ministry.
President John Mahama has nominated Dr. Kwabena Donkor, MP for Pru East and Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Energy, as Minister for the newly created Ministry of Power.
The new Power Ministry, according to government, is part of a restructuring process to ensure stability and security of Ghana's deteriorating power sector.
Executive Director of ACEP, Mohammed Amin Adam, has therefore called for all-inclusiveness to address the power crisis the country is faced with.
Dr Kwabena Donkor is overly partisan and in times like these you need a bi-partisan approach to this national crisis. So I will advise him to work with his opposition colleagues to build consensus on what needs to be done in the power sector", he told Joy News.
He said the power sector issues must in no way be politicised.
"It is a national crisis; it is affecting everybody irrespective what party we belong", he said.
Dr Amin's observation notwithstanding, he said, Dr. Kwabena Donkor is the right man for the job.
