The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has attributed Sunday’s fire outbreak at the Achimota Bulk Power Supply Station to a termination failure.
On Sunday, May 4, a section of ECG's Achimota Bulk Supply Point Station ‘H’ has been gutted by fire.
According to reports, the fire started around 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 4, after an explosion was heard by people in the compound.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Monday, 5th May, Francis Kofi Atsyatsya, General Manager for Sub-Transmission at ECG, disclosed that preliminary investigations point to a termination fault as the cause of the incident, which led to widespread power disruption in the Achimota community and its environs.
“We have identified that we had a termination failure on the feeder emanating from Achimota to GIMPA Sub-Station, and we also had a lightning arrester on one of our transformers at Kwabenya,” Mr Atsyatsya stated.
According to him, technical teams responded swiftly to restore supply, and power has since been restored to the affected areas.
