The '98' year group of the Adisadel College in commemoration of its 25th anniversary is constructing a 200-seater capacity multipurpose reading facility for the school.
The ultra-modern facility, according to the old boys, is to facilitate reading and learning activities in the School.
"This would be the first academic facility at the lower school and we believe it will encourage reading and learning in the School," Dr. Samuel Lartey, Secretary of the group said on the Super Morning Show on Friday, June 10.
The Santaclausian tradition is that after 25 years of leaving the College, the year group members come back to organise and host the Speech and Prize-Giving Day and the Founder’s Day.
This is when outstanding students, presently in the College are celebrated and spurred on to greater achievements than their predecessors have been able to chalk.
Over the years, not only do the school’s alumni come together to organise and host the Speech Day and Founder’s Day, but they also give back to the school however much they can, and in whichever area the School is in need.
"Most of the facilities in Adisadel College have been provided by the alumni and we have a very strong and ever-growing and benevolent alumni body, not only in Ghana but the world over, who all come together to help the Alma Mater keep shining in consonance with our mantra “Vel Primus, Vel cum Primis” which translates into English as “Either the first or with the first,” Dr. Lartey said.
It is in light of this that the Santa ’98 group (Santaclausians 1998) as part of its Silver Jubilee celebration, which will be commemorated in March, 2023, will present the facility to the school.
The group initiated the project, which is valued at about $200 million, about a year ago. So far, they have been able to raise about $90,000.
They are, therefore, appealing to the general public, especially members of the '98' year group who are yet to contribute their quota to the project to come to their aid with support in order to max it a success.
"We appeal to corporate Ghana to help us realise the project which is far advanced now, but we need some help in cash and building materials to complete and deliver the project to the school in March 2023," the Secretary said.
Other support, can come in the form of cement, iron rods, and other building materials, they added.
