Pressure group Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) is calling for the immediate arrest and prosecution of a financier of the National Democratic Congress Alfred Woyome over the controversial judgement debt the latter received.
The group is also demanding for the prosecution of top four government officials whose actions it claims led to a willful financial loss to the state.
AFAG cited Chief of Staff Martey Newman, Education Minister Betty Mould Iddrisu, Deputy Attorney General Ebo Barton Oduro and Finance Minister Dr. Kwabena Duffuor for negligence in the scandal that led to the payment of ¢58 million to Woyome.
A spokesperson to the group, Abu Ramadan told Joy News’ Jefferson Sackey that the actions and inaction of the four top government officials amounted to a willful cause of financial loss to the state.
He averred the state has no legitimate contract with Woyome for him to be awarded such an amount, insisting, any person linked to such payment must be brought to book.
Abu Ramadan also called for the state to increase security for the Attorney General Martin Amidu who has vowed to retrieve the ¢58 million paid to Woyome.
In a reaction, a deputy Information Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said “no Ghanaian is off the hook” on the issue relating to the Woyome judgement debt.
He said the EOCO will use its powers it could muster under the law, including powers of arrest and an option to go to court, to ensure that due investigation is done and the truth unveiled.
He said John Mills’ presidency will ensure that the state resources are duly protected and urged all interested groups to be patient as due process is being followed.
