Vice President Paa Kwasi Amissah-Arthur arrived in South Africa ahead of the Black Stars’ semifinal match against Burkina Faso at the Mbombela Stadium, which will take place Wednesday evening.
His arrival in South Africa fulfilled a promise made to the Black Stars of a planned visit by the Presidency at various stages of the 2013 Nations Cup competition.
During a visit to the Black Stars training grounds in Port Elizabeth on January 19, Prosper Bani, Chief of Staff of the Republic of Ghana, promised the team that the vice president would visit and support them should they progress to the semifinals. Additionally, he said, President John Mahama will attend the grand finale of the 29th edition of the African Cup of Nations competition should the Black Stars make it that far.
“I can confirm to you that President John Dramani Mahama will be in South Africa if you guys are able to qualify to the Finals, the president is in full support of the team, and I know with hard work and determination the team will be able to qualify to the Grand Finale. The entire Ghana is with you and I know with the help of God the team can qualify," he told them.
Vice President Amissah-Arthur will be among the fans cheering the Black Stars on at the Mbombela Stadium as they take on the Stallions of Burkina Faso. Kick-off will be at 18:30 GMT.
