Ghana has been handed a major respite with news that the Black Stars of Ghana will only be involved in the last qualifying phase of the 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
This decision, among others, was taken by the CAF Executive Committee at a meeting held at the Cape Town International Centre under the leadership of the CAF President Issa Hayatou.
The preliminary phase whose draw will be held on the 27th of April 2014 sees the top 21 teams listed in a special CAF rankings approved during the meeting based on performances of teams at the last three editions of the AFCON, the qualifiers of these last three AFCON editions as well as the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers drawing a by for the first phase of qualifiers. Ghana lies 2nd on the rankings with 38 points behind Nigeria.
The final phase qualifiers which takes place from September 5th to November 19th 2014 coughs up seven groups comprising four teams each. The top two teams in each group qualifies directly to the tournament with the best 3rd place finisher also qualifying along with host Morocco. The final draw for the tournament which will run from January 17th to February 7th 2015 comes off on November 26th 2014 in Morocco
