The New Patriotic Party (NPP) leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of deliberately delaying the collation of election results in some constituencies in the Eastern Region.

According to Afenyo-Markin, the NDC is aware they have lost parliamentary seats in the affected constituencies and are intentionally frustrating the process.

Speaking to JoyNews, he claimed the NDC had already collated their results, which indicate their defeat, yet they are creating unnecessary delays.

“It’s before them, and they’re just frustrating the process, delaying the process. They’ve compiled; they know they’ve lost.

"In their own collated figures, they know they’ve lost, and now they are saying they cannot find their pink sheets, so they want to rely on the EC’s pink sheet,” Afenyo-Markin stated.

He alleged that the NDC is feigning a lack of pink sheets, despite having already compiled their results.

“When a figure is mentioned, they now go tracing, pretending they don’t have the pink sheet, and yet they have compiled their results. I think the NDC should stop this. It won’t help us. This is not democracy,” he added.

The Majority Leader further criticized the NDC's actions, pointing out that the NPP conceded the presidential results when their own collation indicated a loss.

He questioned why the NDC would obstruct the process at collation centres when they already know their results.

“We have all the world’s patience. We believe in due process. We will have patience and wait. Whatever they do, at the end of the day, my respected colleague, Hon. Frank Annor Dompreh, who is their target, will remain victorious.

“They cannot defeat him. We have all our pink sheets. We have scanned them also. We have sought copies. We have everything compiled, so we have nothing to fear at all,” Afenyo-Markin added.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission (EC) has relocated the collation of results for some constituencies in the Eastern Region to the Police Training School in Tesano, in the Greater Accra Region.

This decision follows disputes over the collation process in the Eastern Region, which became chaotic in some areas.

The move by the Commission aims to prevent further disruptions at the collation centres.
