Public response to the Biometric Voters Registration exercise in Aflao was positive despite threats of boycott over government’s failure to grant Aflao a municipal status.
Long queues of people anxious to register were observed at the many centres visited by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Saturday.
At Post Officer Centres “A” and “B” at Aflao, 66 and 40 people respectively were registered by noon.
At Hatsukope Roman Catholic Basic School, 26 people registered by 11 am though the exercise there started at 0916 hours due to the inability of the registration officers to put the equipment into operation.
Some of the Registration teams could also not readily identify the centres where they were supposed to carry out the exercise.
The Registration officers were also reluctant to provide information to reporters, instead referring them to the Regional and District Offices of the Electoral commission.
Mr Aminu Abukari, Ketu-South EC Officer, told the GNA that problems relating to getting the machines into operation have been resolved with the exercise getting on well at all the 32 centres.
