Africa World Airline, one of the most vibrant local airlines in the aviation industry is set to expand its operations to fly to other countries with the arrival of its fifth airline.
The president and founder of the Airline Togbe Afede XIV assured that of the arrival of two more aircraft this year and ten other aircraft subsequently as Africa world prepares to expand its activities across the continent.
Speaking at the arrival of the aircraft, he said, “we still have a commitment to bring two larger aircraft by the middle of this year and there is an even bigger good news."
The Director-General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Simon Allotey, said local airlines needed to venture into other countries in the sub-region for more business opportunities.
“It used to take about three days to go from Ghana to Sao Tome but a foreign operator, TAP Portugal has seen the opportunity for traffic growth between Accra and Sao Tome and they are mopping all the passengers.
"So we want to encourage our airlines and work with them collaboratively to look at new strategies for growth and market expansion and together we can grow Ghana’s Aviation Industry," he added.
He also added that the aviation authority was working with government to ensure that the taxes on aircraft parts and VAT on domestic air tickets are removed with the hope of driving down the cost of domestic flights.
The new Embraya aircraft according to GCAA is the first single digit aged plane among the fleet of Africa World Airlines.
The new aircraft with registration number 9G-AFJ has passed all standard safety tests.
Sun Bao Hong, the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana who was the guest of honor also expressed her country’s support in building Ghana's aviation industry.
