Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s stalwart defender, Abeiku Ainooson believes he and his colleagues caused Kotoko’s elimination from the ongoing CAF Champions league last Sunday in Liberia.
The two time Africa Champions were beaten by Liberian side Barrack Young Controllers (BYC) 1-0 to qualify on a 2-2 aggregate after the first leg tie ending on a 2-1 note in Kumasi but the away goal rule gave the BYC boys advantage to progress to the next stage of the competition.
The aftermath of the game saw goalkeeper Soulama Abdullah being falsely accused of having met officials of the Liberian side at dawn where a deal was struck for him to aid their progression into the next stage with a figure believed to be in the region of $3000 being quoted.
Ainooson who excelled in the just ended CHAN tournament believes each and every player of the team contributed to the early exit for conceding that late goal because they played very well and deserved to even score against BYC.
“I believe the players didn’t help the team because we possessed the ball in every department of play before conceding such a late goal so we they should blame we the players.
“As a players, I feel ashamed for not progressing into the next stage of the competition because I joined Kotoko to play in CAF competitions”

“I believe we the players didn’t do our best lift the team so the supporters should forgive us for letting them down this time round”. He added
In 2013, the same away goal rule eliminated Kotoko by JSM Bejaia of Algeria after a 1-1 draw in Kumasi when the first leg had ended 0-0 in Algeria.
