President Nana Akufo-Addo has joined other African leaders to mourn Burundi’s late president, Pierre Nkurunziza.
Akufo-Addo wrote tweeted on Wednesday expressing his “condolences to the government and people of the Republic of Burundi.”
The Ghanaian people and I extend our deepest condolences to the Government and people of the Republic of Burundi, on the sad news of the death of their President, His Excellency Pierre Nkurunziza. May his soul rest in perfect peace.

“May his soul rest in perfect peace,” Akufo-Addo said.
Nkurunziza, 55, who has led Burundi for the past 15 years was due to step down in August 2020 but died yesterday after a cardiac arrest, the presidency said.
Tributes have been pouring in for the deceased leader from Africa and beyond.
President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta described him “as an outstanding regional counterpart who served his country with distinction as Head of State and Government.”

Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria said, “President Nkurunziza was a true patriot that steered the country through turbulent times with wisdom and foresight.”
At this time of great pain & loss,the Government and people of Nigeria as well as myself, express our deepest condolences to the Government and people of Burundi. Our thoughts & prayers also go out to the family of the President. May God grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.

President of neighbouring Rwanda, Paul Kagame also sent his condolences to the Burundian people.
