President Akufo-Addo will in November 2022 launch the National Energy Transmission Plan to provide clean, affordable and reliable energy.
According to a Deputy Minister of Energy, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, the project is currently with Cabinet for scrutiny and approval.
The project will see the shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources such as wind and solar.
Speaking to Joy Business at the launch of the Final Report, Dr. Amin Adam said the National Energy Transmission Plan will help fight climate change in the country.
“We’re constituting a team and the team is going around the country consulting with our people so that we have a national plan which can be owned by the people of our country. We are finalizing the plan for Cabinet consideration”.
“And there are various options that we are putting on the table, but we want to look at the most feasible cost-effective locally contextualized plan that will meet our aspiration as a country. We are very confident that by 1st or 2nd week of November his excellency the President should launch the Energy Transition Plan”, he explained.
A member of the Steering Committee of the Ghana Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, Dr. Steve Manteaw expressed worry the country has not been coherent with its policy alignment in the energy transition plan.
“Again, we as a country, we pride ourselves we have a lot to iron. For you to turn your iron into steel, therefore machine making, you will need manganese. We continue to export manganese in its raw form such that if we are not careful and we develop our steel industry, we have to import manganese to manufacture steel. So we haven’t been coherent in terms of our policy alignment with the object of staying competitive in this energy Transition race”.
The aim of the Ghana Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative Report is to map out the critical minerals in Ghana and their associated governance challenges to enable stakeholders better understand the risks and opportunities of the transition to a green energy sector.
