New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie has called responded to the Research and Advocacy Platform (RAP), which publicly asked why Nana Akufo-Addo had concealed his Oxford University education from the public.
According to him, the NPP and its presidential candidate will not dignify such a triviality with a response while there are more serious matters at hand such as the millions of Ghanaians yearning to escape abject poverty.
RAP, a pro-National Democratic Congress (NDC) group, suggested at a press conference in Accra that Akufo-Addo’s failure to include his Oxford University education on his Curriculum Vitae (CV) raises questions about his integrity.
Felix Kwakye-Ofosu, the group’s convener, said it is demonstrable that Akufo-Addo was enrolled at Oxford University for the 1962/63 Academic Year but that left the University under “unexplained circumstances”.
He wondered how Ghanaians will trust him [Nana] if he cannot be honest and transparent on his CV.
But on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie said the question about whether Nana Akufo-Addo attended Oxford University or not will not solve the bread and butter issues confronting Ghanaians.
He noted that the ruling party and its appendages are making a fuss about Nana Addo’s educational background because they lack ideas.
Sir John, as he is popularly called, suggeted that the ruling party is trying to create a diversion because they cannot contend with the popularity of the NPP’s free senior high school promise.
He said the NPP’s espoused educational policy has sunk deep into the minds of Ghanaians and that nothing can make them change their minds now.
The NPP Scribe promised that the party’s campaign would not be derailed because it remains resolute in its goal to redeem Ghanaians from poverty and suffering, which he said they have experienced under the NDC.
Sir John added that with corruption at its peak in the country, all the voters are waiting for is a leader like Akufo-Addo, one who is committed to addressing the issue head on.
