Ghana’s leading accappella group, the Alabaster Box would be collaborating with male gospel duo Willie and Mike to celebrate both of their 20th anniversaries in the gospel music industry next year.

Leader of Alabaster Box, Samuel Dowuona disclosed this in an interview with Adom FM’s mid-morning Work and Happiness host Ohemaa Woyeje on Tuesday.

Sammy did not give details of the how the one score would be marked next year but said “God has been faithful to have kept us all these years and we intend to mark our 20th year in a grand style. And we are planning to do it together with Willie and Mike who would also be 20 together next year.”

Meanwhile, since their return from the UK tour, where they lifted the flag of Ghana high on BBC World Focus on Africa, Alabaster Box has been preparing to launch new album titled “Level don Change.”

Ohemaa Woyeje probed the inspiration for the song “Level don Change”, and Sammy explained that it was based on a message preached by renowned international preacher Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo years ago.

“He preached about the four lepers who were banished from Israel in a time of hunger. They convinced themselves that if they sat at the gates they will die slowly out of hunger so they rather chose to go to the enemies’ camp where they could be killed quickly.

“But on reaching the enemies camp they met the absence of the enemies but found loads of food and goodies so they returned to Israel and announced what they had discovered. They left Israel poor and hungry but they came back rich and full. They came back with a different level in life,” Sammy said.

He noted that beside the title track, there are nine other songs on the album, which largely reflect a return to the rawness of the vocal tone, which brought the group to the limelight more than 10 years ago.

Some of the other songs are Hakuna Waku Fananana Yesu (Swahili), Yen Egya Owor soro, Bebre, Thank You, The Grace and a remix of their Mama Africa song, which was first recorded on the first album, among others.  

Another member of the group, Horst Koranteng noted that plans are afoot to launch the new album later this year, but the date would soon be concretized and announced.

“We are working with Mobile Content to put the invitation cards on their Cardscafe Platform in the Google Play Store, Java and other platforms accessible on any Android, Nokia and Blackberry phone,” he said.

Meanwhile, ahead of the album launch, the group will be making a few appearances on platforms both in Ghana and in parts of Africa.
