The simigwa-do singer is back in the news. This time, not about his MUSIGA presidential ambitions or his call for probe of certain key members in the music industry, but in a quest to promote African Music. Owing to the success of African music, Ambolley would on December 22, 2007 go to Liberia to produce some selected musicians. In an interview, he said “Liberia has been a war-torn country and this would be my contribution to bring back music to the people of Liberia”. He indicated that instead of leaving Ghana on December 22, he would depart twelve days earlier to familiarize himself with situations in that country. He would be performing at the Samuel Kayon Doe Sports Complex in Monrovia to raise funds to acquire instruments for the musicians. While his performances are expected to entertain the audience, it would also establish the need for upcoming artistes to take dancing as an integral part of music. The old-time highlife rapper would not hide his funny boogies which always succeed in provoking great laughter. His performance in Liberia would be the second in four months. He last performed there in August, when he was invited by the Digital Media Liberia Enterprise to officially open a new recording studio. He seized the opportunity to speak to upcoming musicians on the rudiments of music at a workshop held as part of the activity. That, however, was not the first time a Ghanaian musician went to Liberia. Recently, some top Ghanaian hiplife and highlife musicians were also there to perform at the country’s Independence Day celebration as well other peace accord shows. Among them were Ofori Amponsah, Tic Tac, Screwface, Pop Skinny, Nadjo of FBS fame and others. Liberia has indeed survived a depressing war which wiped out a number of her young talents needed for building a vibrant music industry.
