The Ghana Consolidated Diamonds Limited, the state own diamond mining company that has been on the divestiture list for some years now, has finally found an investor.
The company is to be taken over by an American investor, the Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Ofosu Asamoah, said at a rally of the Akwatia Constituency branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at Akwatia on Friday but he did not give any details.
The company was virtually closed down in October last year and only skeleton staff was maintained as a result of under capitalization and use of obsolete plant machinery.
Speaking at the rally, the Kwaebibirem District Chief Executive, Mr Yaw Yiadom Boakye, said all roads in the area had been awarded on contract and work on some of them had already started.
He said development projects had been equitably distributed.
Mr Kingston A. Kissi, the outgoing Member of Parliament (MP) for Akwatia, said when the National Democratic Congress left power the national coffers were almost empty but the NPP had filled it and urged the electorate to return the party to power.
Dr Kofi Asare, the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Akwatia, called on the electorate to vote massively for him and the party’s presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
