A member on Parliament’s Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee has said, comments by the Deputy Special Prosecutor nominee about Martin Amidu’s temperament is a cliché thrown about.

Rockson Dafeamekpor wants people to look beyond Cynthia Naa Koshie Lamptey’s comment about her soon-to-be boss, and focus on the great work the two would do for the benefit of the country.

“This will be two great lawyers trying to work to let the new Special Prosecutor Office achieve its goals.

“I believe they will complement each other and we will see how the office will operate,” he told Evans Mensah on Joy FM’s Newsnight programme Wednesday.

The legislator disclosed he has worked with the former acting Director of Public Prosecutions at the Attorney General’s Department for nine years and does not in any way doubt her capabilities.

According to the private legal practitioner, there is no way the two would clash as their roles are clearly defined.

His comments follow a statement by the Deputy Special Prosecutor nominee that, she will resign if her boss, Mr Amidu, or anyone decides to sideline or interfere with her job.

Mrs Koshie Lamptey told Parliament’s Appointment Committee during her vetting Wednesday that the new Special Prosecutor Office needs strong and independent-minded individuals.

"If I am sidelined I will resign," she stated.

Former Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Martin Amidu, had already served notice he would walk, if there was any political interference by the Akufo-Addo-led administration.

There are fears that the two like-minded individuals would clash but Mr Dafeamekpor said, “the point she is making is that just like Martin himself, the point that she is making is that they both have a strong conviction of their jobs".

“She is simply saying 'if I have a strong conviction of a case and my boss thinks otherwise, I will leave',” he said.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Appointment Committee, Joseph Osei Owusu said they will recommend the nominee for approval.

He said they were satisfied with her performance and did not require many detailed answers but they wanted to be convinced she was qualified and knew her job.
