Aggrieved family members of murdered overlord of Dabgon, are reminding government to make good its campaign pledge of arresting perpetrators of the crime.
A bloody confrontation between the Abudus and Andanis in 2002 led to the death of the overlord, Ya Naa Yakubu Andani together with 22 of his elders.
The incident took a political twist, with the then opposition National Democratic Congress accusing government of doing little to arrest the perpetrators.
The party in its manifesto pledged to find the killers of the Yana if it was voted into power.
Secretary to the Andani gate, Ibrahim Adam told Joy News government must expedite action in bringing the perpetrators to book.
Meanwhile, the eighth Ya-na Yakubu Andani memorial lectures has been put on hold following a directive by the Northern Regional Security Council for the lectures to be postponed.
There are fears the lectures could trigger violence in the fragile Northern Regional where a protracted chieftaincy dispute between the Abudus and Andanis has claimed dozens of innocent lives.
The Andani’s seek justice for the murder of their overlord but have since his murder, organised annual lectures in honour of his memory.
This year’s lecture under the theme: “Seeking the killers of Ya-na; the responsibility of the state,” was scheduled to be held at the GNAT hall in Tamale on Saturday, March 27, 2010, but REGSEC has appealed that the lectures be postponed.
Chairman of the planning committee of the lecture, Anas Abdulai in an interview with Joy News said they have received a letter from REGSEC demanding the postponement of the lecture to maintain the fragile peace in the area.
He said even though they are not happy with REGSEC’s decision, they are ready to comply for the sake of peace.
