The National Association of Graduate Teachers says its decision to embark on strike on Monday still holds despite a last gasp attempt by government to avert the strike. NAGRAT failed to attend the crunch meeting called at the behest of the president to address their grievances. Its president Christian Addae-Poku told Joy News they were not “adequately informed.” According to him, government did not contact the NAGRAT executives officially to communicate the intended meeting but only engaged in “media spinning.” “[With] The media spinning that was done yesterday, the whole Ghana will know that the right way to invite people to a meeting is not to issue a press statement to the media and not contact the people directly involved," he stated. He said he has been in Kumasi and was not aware of the meeting scheduled for Sunday. At the meeting attended by members of GNAT and TEWU, government made overtures intended to resolve the crisis but the agreement was largely inconclusive. A statement issued by the Information Ministry said the intended West African Senior Secondary Certificate Exams scheduled for Monday will however go on as planned. It assured the teachers of government’s commitment to address their grievances. But the NAGRAT president said their strike will go on if their grievances are not addressed.
