Health authorities in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region have imposed a ban on meat in the wake of an outbreak of anthrax in the area.
The outbreak has already killed over 20 cattle and there are reports some people have died as well.
Past outbreaks of the disease claimed several human lives in the region.
Speaking to Joy News the Bawku West Health Director, Mary Stella Adepesa said the ban is necessary to save lives.
She explained the nature of the slaughter business in the region makes it difficult to properly track unwholesome meat, hence the need for the ban.
Health Authorities say they have so far vaccinated more than a thousand cattle as they continue the campaign to stop the spread of the disease.
