A Police officer has been attacked and shot by highway robbers in the Bole district of the Northern region, Sunday.
The officer was traveling on a commercial bus when the attack occurred.
A journalist with the Yagbon Radio in Bole, Richard Forgor told Joy News the incident happened around 11:00 am.
The police man who was detailed to join a patrol team left an item at home and was on his way back to retrieve the item when the incident occurred.
According to Forgor the masked men had blocked the road around Maluwe en route to Bole and were about to rob the passengers when they saw the police man in uniform.
The robbers then shot at him, brought him out of the vehicle and started beating him up. But for the intervention of a police patrol team, the police man would have been killed.
The robbers took to their heels into a nearby bush, Forgor reported. The victim is receiving treatment at the Wenchi government hospital.
Northern Region Police PRO ASP Ebenezer Tetteh is calling on the residents to assist the police with information that will lead to the arrest of the suspects.
He said the police has already picked up some information and they will be following up on it.
