Government has partnered a plastic pavement block manufacturing company, Nelplast Ghana Limited to create over 1,500 jobs at Ashaiman in the Greater Accra region.
The initiative which is under the One District One Factory initiative is part of an effort to end the unemployment situation in the area.
Speaking at the launch, the Municipal Chief Executive for Ashaiman, Albert Boakye Okyere revealed that, government has also allocated three acres of land around the Ashaiman Irrigation Dam area to enable them to expand the factory.
He was elated that a Ghanaian company in his municipality has been able to develop such technology to create jobs for the youth in the area.
Mr Boakye Okyere pledged government’s continuous support in ensuring the plastic pavement blocks produced is exported in large quantities.
Also, the Chief Executive Officer of Nelplast Ghana Limited, Nelson Boateng expressed profound gratitude to government for the enormous support.

He noted that the company currently provides about 200 jobs and over 500 indirect jobs to the youth and the elderly in Ashaiman and the Kpone-Katamanso municipalities.
Mr Boateng stated that the plastic paving blocks have been proven to be above 700 percent stronger than the concrete ones, in that, the capacity of plastic is higher than sand.
To prove its durability, he said their product was used for the car park of the Ministry of Environment and is still looking new.
“The blocks could last for 500 years, the same span as plastic, making the Nelplast product more durable and environmentally suitable over concrete paving blocks” he added.
Mr Nelson Boateng thanked government and Ministry of Environment for the opportunity to expand his locally made technology, and the chance to train the youth on new ventures for national growth.
