The New Patriotic Party is to embark on a demonstration on November 10, 2014 in protest against a planned replacement of electricity meters in the Ashanti Region.
Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, disclosed this to Luv News Thursday.
The Electricity Company of Ghana is set to install 68 thousand new meters in the Ashanti East District at no cost to customers.
Areas to be covered as part of the company’s effort to plug loopholes in revenue mobilization include Dichemso, Kejetia, Mampong and Manhyia.
Mr. Antwi Boasiako, however, says the NPP will resist the move because his investigations indicate consumers would pay twice the amount they are paying currently for power when the new meters are installed.
He said the meter replacement exercise is a ploy by government to automatically impose higher tariffs on consumers in the opposition stronghold.
