Ghana Coach Avram Grant wants the Youth and Sports Ministry and the Ghana Football Association to find a solution to the team’s outstanding winning bonuses so his troops are motivated for the task ahead.
The Black Stars are starting another World Cup qualification campaign this Friday with a first leg game against Comoros Island in Moroni.
Joy Sports sources indicate that the team have not been paid their winning bonuses in their last two 2017 AFCON qualifiers against Mauritius and Rwanda.
The talk ahead of the Comoros game has been about whether the winning bonus should be slashed from $10,000 to $5000. The players have not been happy about this development, with team leader Asamoah Gyan voicing out their displeasure publicly.
Sports Minister Mustapha Ahmed announced at the Ghana FA’s Ordinary Congress on Tuesday that he wants to hold a meeting with the FA and the Black Stars players to discuss the imminent reduction of the winning bonus.
In response, Avram Grant, who has been tasked to qualify the team for the 2018 World Cup and also win the 2017 AFCON, wants the authorities to quickly deal with the issue.
“One of the things they brought me here to do was to make new standards after what happened at the World Cup. So all I want is proper things must be put in place to ensure we do that without any difficulty,” said Grant.
"I’m not here to blame anybody. I want to find a solution, and my way is a solution so I hope they will find a solution to this issue."
“I hope they will find a solution because one of the things that everybody knows around the world is the pressure that is on the players. They need to restore quiet into the team’s camp."
“Let’s face the facts. The fact is that this team after I arrived has always given 100% commitment. The results are good. We need to be professional off the pitch and I hope they will find a solution for this."
Grant's call echoes similar sentiments from Andre Ayew, and Charles 'CK' Akunnor.
