The international break is officially here, it’s time to now relive the action from the weekend preceding the break, with particular attention to Ghanaian players in Europe. Joy Sports picked these five standout players for this week.
Jordan Ayew – Crystal Palace
Palace fans are calling for Ayew to win the Ballon d’Or award already and that’s because their new number 9 has been nothing short of sensational. He scored the winner against West Ham over the weekend.
The £2.5m striker has now tripled his Premier League tally from last season in just eight games. His three goals came in his last six top-flight appearances with each of them winning the Eagles three points on the day.
Ayew’s exploits this season has led Roy Hodgson’s men into a top six place heading into the international break.
Joseph Aidoo – Celta Vigo
Aidoo continued his fine start to life in Spain as he demonstrated leadership at the back against Athletic Bilbao. Â
The former Genk defender stood out yet again helping Celta Vigo keep a clean sheet. He barely put a foot wrong as he completed 91% percent of his passes attempted.
The 24-year-old has become one of Celta's most trusted and has featured in every match since being dropped for the opening game of the season.
Andre Ayew - Swansea
Despite losing, Ayew put in a shift against Stoke City. The Ghana captain scored in the first minute of the game from close range.
It was the first time the 29-year-old was scoring in back-to-back games this season after giving the Swans the lead against Reading in midweek.
Ayew has been inspiring for Swansea this season scoring four goals and providing three assists so far.
Majeed Ashimeru – Red Bull Salzburg
Red Bull Salzburg returned to winning ways over the weekend and Ashimeru was instrumental once again as he pulled the strings in a 6-0 win against Altach.
Ashimeru, 21, who impressed on his Champions League debut at Anfield against Liverpool during midweek assisted Patson Daka’s goal in the 11th minute over the weekend.
The Black Meteors midfielder has scored two goals and provided three assists in seven Austrian league games so far.
Mohammed Salisu – Real Valladolid
It’s now 2 clean sheets in a row for Salisu’s Real Valladolid. The most impressive one is their most recent, against title contenders Atletico Madrid over the weekend.
Salisu who made his La Liga debut Valladolid two months ago after graduating from their B team has been very imposing this season.
Against Atletico Madrid, he kept the likes of Morata, Diego Costa, Joao Felix and Lemar quiet in the game. The 20-year-old had 40 touches of the ball, attempted 30 passes, won 6 duels, completed 3 tackles and made 4 clearances.
A five-star performance from Salisu who is yet to make his Black Stars debut.
