The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Mohammed Baba Jamal, has initiated a move to reconcile the people of Akwatia with the new District Chief Executive (DCE) for Kwaebibirem, Mr George Agyemang Duah, to promote peace and unity in the district. It will be recalled that a section of the youth of Akwatia vehemently opposed the nomination of Mr Agyemang Duah to the extent that some irate members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) vandalised the Akwatia Constituency office of the party, in protest against the DCE's nomination. In order to solicit for support for the DCE, Baba Jamal has visited the Muntala Mosque at Akwatia, where he addressed a forum attended by a large number of Muslims, during which he advised them to forget about the past and forge ahead in unity. Addressing another meeting with the people of the Kwame Kumah Electoral Area, also in Akwatia, he urged them to rally behind Mr Agyemang Duah to speed up the development of the area. Baba Jamal promised to collaborate with the new DCE to construct a bridge over the Brim River to link Akwatia toAkyem Kusi. He added that plans were far advanced to reactivate the Ghana Consolidated Diamonds (GCD) to create jobs for the numerous unemployed youth in the constituency and beyond. Mr Baba Jamal gave the assurance that the NDC government would fulfill the life-long ambition of the people of Akwatia by creating a new district from Kwaebibirem, which would be called Denkyembuor District with Akwatia as its capital. Present at the forums were assembly members, other opinion leaders and NDC executives in the Akwatia Constituency. Source: Daily Graphic
