The Bawku Municipal Security Council has imposed a ban on the wearing of a T-shirts with provocative inscriptions.
The security council has urged people in the town to refrain from wearing the T-shirts bearing the inscription “Original Chief of Bawku.”
Officials say the T-shirt, worn mainly by Mamprusis in reference to their chief is intended to taunt and undermine the authority of the Paramount Chief of Bawku who is a Kusasi.
It is believed to be the cause of last Monday night’s shooting which left one person dead and another in critical condition at the hospital.
The Municipal Chief Executive of Bawku, Musa Abdulai, says the wearing of the T-shirt is further worsening the already volatile situation in the area.
According to him, security officials banned the T-shirt when they started receiving complaints that its was causing tension in the area.
Asked whether the man who was shot dead on Monday wore the shirt Abdulai said “For now I will not be able to confirm whether anybody was wearing that T-shirt or not unless the security agencies who were on the ground” finish their investigations.
Meanwhile, the Upper East Regional Police Commander, ACP Bright Oduro, who is expected to be in Bawku later Tuesday, told Joy News 11 more people have been arrested in connection with the incident.
He said the real cause of the incident has yet to be established.
