Vice-President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has admonished teachers to be firm, diligent and honest on polling in the December Presidential and Parliamentary elections.Mr. Amissah-Arthur noted that because teachers will be playing critical roles on Election Day by assisting electoral officers in the conduct of the polls, the success or otherwise of the elections will partly depend on them.The Vice-President gave the advice at the 18th National Best Teacher Awards ceremony in Kumsai in the Ashanti region on Friday. The event also coincided with the United Nations World Teachers' Day.He stressed for the need for the society to show greater appreciation to teachers in rural areas whom he said had not relented in their efforts to produce a literate society even in the face of trying conditions.He assured of government continuous support for teachers as part of efforts to improve the quality of education from the basic to the tertiary levels in order to produce quality human resource base for the nation.Ms Patricia Ampofoa Ampofo, a teacher at the IT Department at Kumasi Technical Institute was crowned overall National Best Teacher for the 2012, while Philip Bukari of Sekondi College in the Western region and Agonyo Bonney of TI Ahmadiyya College also in Kumasi, came second and third respectively.Ms Ampofoa claimed the 3-bedroom house to be built at a location of her choice, with Mr. Bukari driving home a brand new pick-up while Agonyo Bonney also drove home a brand new salon car as his prize.
