An invigilator at the Mater Ecclesiae Preparatory School Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) Centre at Sokode-Gbogame said invigilators need to be served snacks to prevent them from leaving their assignments in search of food.
Mr Stanis Yaw Ablenyi, one of the invigilators at the centre near Ho, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Tuesday that such a provision was long overdue given the strict regimen invigilators were supposed to observe to prevent candidates from sneaking and using foreign materials in the examination centres.
Some of his colleagues noted the request should not be too much of a burden because information gathered from some West African countries indicate it is a normal practice during such examinations where invigilators are served breakfast, snacks and lunch to prevent them from leaving their posts.
He said though they would be paid allowances, those allowances would take sometime in coming, long after the examinations.
Shortly after Mr Ablenyi had spoken to the GNA, authorities of the Mater Ecclesiae Preparatory School brought in some biscuits, hot water, tea bags, sugar and milk to be served the invigilators during break.
"The Sister here understands the importance of our work and has been helpful," one of the invigilators remarked.
