Benin Head coach, Michel Dussuyer has named a 20-man squad for this weekend’s 2010 World Cup/Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ghana's Black Stars at Cotonou.
The Squirrels will host the Black Stars in the penultimate Group D clash of the qualifying series on Sunday, October 11 at the Stade de l’Amitie in Cotonou.
The Frenchman left out offensive midfielder Abou Maiga of French second division outfit, US Creteil while midfielder Stephane Sessgnon of Paris Saint-Germain and burly striker Razak Omotoyossi of FC Metz maintain their places in the squad.
The squad is dominated by players from French Lower divisions and has only four local-based players made up of Djokoue Patrice of Requins, ASPAC duo of Adou Mouftaou and Salomon Jnr. and Traore Haï of Panthères.
Information gathered by GNA Sports from the secretariat of the Football Federation of Benin (FEBEFOOT) indicates that “Les Ecureuils” are high in spirit as they seek to avenge a painful lone goal defeat suffered at the hands of their guests last March at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
The Squirrels need at least a win to remain in the hunt for a third appearance at the Orange Africa Cup of Nations after 2004 and 2008 exploits.
The Beninois have four points, eight adrift of the Black Stars, the first African side apart from host South Africa to qualify for the first World Cup Mundial to be staged on African soil.
