The Anglican Bishop of Koforidua, Right Rev Benjamin Francis Quashie, has said that the time when it was held that the place of the woman was in the kitchen is past. He observed that many women are occupying high positions in the country and they are making contributions towards the nation’s development. He said women had played a major role in the peace the country was enjoying. This was contained in a speech read on his behalf at the formal opening of the 10th Biennial Diocesan Conference of the Anglican Women's Fellowship at Kyebi on Saturday. He said if wives of leaders of the country had taken dangerous positions and urged their husbands to take more aggressive decisions and resorted to arms, the country would have been in flames by now. The four-day-conference was being organized under the theme "The Christian Woman; a pillar of Nation Building" and was being attended by representatives of the fellowship through out the Eastern Region. Rt. Rev Quashie said the appointment of a woman as the Chief Justice and a large number of women serving in various leadership positions was an indication that the old saying that the only place for women was the kitchen was past and gone. The Director of the Anglican Diocesan Ministerial Education Centre in Koforidua, Venerable Felix Anancy, urged Christian women who wanted to help in building the country to start from their homes and ensure that their places became true Christian residence for others to emulate. He advised women to have time to study the Bible so that they could live by the teachings of the Christian faith for others to emulate. Venerable Anancy said it was only when they had learned the Bible well that they would be in a position to teach their children, spouses, relations and friends to lead lives devoid of corruption, cheating and other social vices. The Diocesan President of the fellowship, Ms Comfort Boateng, called on women to walk in faith to enable them to play their role properly and effectively to help reduce the rate of divorce, broken homes, prostitution and streetism.
