The Bimoba Students Union of Ghana (BISU) has called on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to provide alternative examination centres for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSE) candidates of the conflict-stricken area. The exam is due to begin in less than a month’s time and the union has called for peace in the renewed conflict between the Bimobas and Konkombas in the Bunpurungu Yonyo District of the Northern Region.Addressing a press conference, the President of the union, Conlan Blay expressed concern about the abrupt end of school activities in the area because of the raging conflict.“It of evidential value to bring to the notice of the media that schools in the area are closed down as a result of this conflict” and “the most affected in terms of the closure of the schools id both the Bimoba and Konkomba students.”He noted that most schools across the country are preparing for the exams and if nothing is done, “this will have a replica effect on their performance.”Meanwhile the GES has allayed fears that the conflict may make it impossible for about 700 candidates of the Nankpanduri Senor High School for instance to sit for the upcoming exams.Speaking to Joy News, the Upper East Regional Director of Education who also currently has oversight responsibility over the Northern Region, Paul Akpanga said necessary measures would be instituted to ensure that all the candidates in the area write their exam in their schools.
