A 58-year old trader has been shot dead by armed robbers who attacked the family residence at Pakyi Number One, near Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
Mercy Ankrah was hit in the stomach at close range from a shot fired through the door as she and her daughter tried to prevent the robbers from entering the house.
The incident is one of three recorded in the region on Monday and Tuesday. An earlier attack claimed the life of a mobile banker of Kwamanman Rural Bank at Kwamang in the Sekyere Central District.
Antwi Boateng was shot by two armed robbers who invaded the bank on Monday morning.
The deceased who left behind a wife and four children including twins was shot in the forehead and armpit by AK-47 assault rifle- wielding robbers on motorbike.
In the other incident, six men, armed with AK 47rifles and pump action guns reportedly trailed son of Madam Ankrah who had gone to collect money he had kept with his sister at about 8 p.m.
After forcibly taking the money from the gentleman they marched him at gun point to the house where they attacked the family, including the woman’s blind husband.
Madam Ankrah and her 32 year old daughter [name withheld] had tried to lock the China-made security door, on seeing the robbers who fired through and hit the woman.
The daughter who was hit in the thigh is currently on admission at the Accident and Emergency Center of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
The robbers subsequently made away with electrical gadgets, mobile phones and unspecified amount of money in US dollars meant for eye surgery on Madam Ankrahs blind husband.
Nhyira FM’s Akosua Addai Mununkum Osei-Tutu who visited the scene reports of blood stained compound.
The incident attracted large number of residents who besieged the house.
In the latest attack, six highway robbers believed to be of Fulani origin, at gun point, robbed commuters on the Fomena-New Edubiase section of the Kumasi-Cape Coast road.
They mounted a road block at Adansi Akwansrem, near Adansi Asokwa, at about 3 a.m on Tuesday and robbed commuters of huge sums of money.
They also released the brake of a fuel tanker, forcing it into a ditch after the driver and his mate escaped into the bush.
The driver of the tanker [name withheld] tells Nhyira FM he escaped unhurt after the robbers shot at him together with a KIA truck driver.
No arrest has been made in all the three robbery incidents.
