The Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama, has opened the 131st Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting with a call for careful, evidence-based policy decisions as Ghana navigates global economic uncertainty and rising energy prices.
Addressing the opening session on Monday, July 20, Dr Asiama said the Committee would assess recent inflation trends, the impact of the Bank's May monetary policy reforms, domestic liquidity conditions and external risks facing the economy.
He noted that although Ghana's economy has continued to demonstrate resilience, policymakers must remain vigilant in responding to evolving global and domestic developments.

"Our task this week is not simply to assess the latest data. It is to determine whether the framework we strengthened in May remains fit for the conditions now before us, and whether the choices we made then continue to serve the medium-term objectives on which our credibility depends," the Governor stated.

Dr Asiama also launched the inaugural Monetary Policy Committee Educational Observership Programme (MPC-EOP), welcoming students from the University of Ghana to observe aspects of the MPC process.

He said the initiative reflects the Bank's commitment to transparency, public engagement and developing the next generation of economists and policymakers.
