Hip life duo, Bradez, made up of Stone (Da Flowking) and Kunta Kinte after hitting the year 2009 with ‘Simple’ which won the Most Popular Song of the Year award at the 2010 Ghana Music Awards, have established Bradez Foundation, a charity based organisation.
Speaking in an interview with Myjoyonline.com, Stone said they have realised that most students drop out of school to pursue their talents while others also drop their talents because of their education. “Bradez Foundation is aimed at helping students merge their talents and education,” he said.
Stone recounted that the foundation, registered about three months ago, initially aimed at providing free education to talented Junior High School graduates to pursue Senior High School education. Due to financial constraints, the duo had to resort to an initial phase of the foundation’s activities which they’ve dubbed ‘Edutal Tour’ (Educating your Talent).
During every Edutal Tour, the duo goes to various SHS, perform for free to entertain them after which they do a power point presentation on “How to discover your talent, How to develop that talent and How to manage education with that talent and the importance of education in that process.”
Asked for what the inspiration behind the foundation is, Stone said society has given a lot to them and this is one way of giving back to society. “We believe in the fact that we should give back what society has given us,” adding they have been fortunate to go to school to pursue their education and do their music (talent) to win awards.
Stone studied Biochemistry at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology graduating in 2007 while Kunta Kinte is currently a second year Fine Arts student of the University of Ghana.
The Bradez on Saturday, July 10, took their Edutal Tour to Toase SHS in the Ashanti Region and have already sent out letters to other SHS waiting for approval to take the Edutal Tour there.
In another development, the duo revealed that they have already started working on their new album. They have currently recorded eight songs hoping to release the album fully before December 2010. They added they will be releasing songs on the album monthly till the final release date.
To keep their fans warm, Bradez have released two remix songs, ‘Party Hard’ by Donaeo and ‘Life’ by Sarkodie. They have also just finished shooting a video (shot at a cemetery) for the ‘Life’ song.
