The president Nana Akufo-Addo has named COP David Asante Appeatu as Acting Inspector General of Police. He takes over from John Kudalor whose retirement was announced hours ago at the Flagstaff House.

The president said the new IGP must lead a new vision for a professional police service where acts of violence and intimidation are abhored.
Knowledgeable and diligent in service, the new IGP is also fluent in French, a quality the president found most heart warming.
Dressed in his full service apparel, COP Apeatu was introduced to the media at the Flagstaff House Wednesday.
The president said the new IGP is mandated to arrest anybody at all found to have committed a crime without regard to political coloration.
The appointment comes at a time members of the New Patriotic Party are said to be on rampage, seizing public properties and attacking opponents.
The president said the new police service under Apeatu must not entertain such acts of lawlessness.

Few minutes before the introduction, the former Acting Inspector General of Police John Kudalor bid farewell to president Nana Akufo-Addo after an illustrious career as a police man.
He was however ready to serve in any capacity the president may deem fit.
In a meeting with the president the outgoing IGP was happy about a peaceful and successful election in 2016.
He said it was a great honour to have served in the highest position in the Police Service and paid glowing tribute to his colleagues for the great support given him.
The meeting held at the Flagstaff House, Wednesday, had Interior Minister designate Ambrose Dery and Executive Secretary to the president Nana Asante Bediatuo all attending.
