The Ashanti New Town Court in Kumasi, on Tuesday, sentenced a 22-year-old cab driver to two years imprisonment in hard labour for robbing two ladies of their mobile phones at separate locations.
Samuel Addai pleaded guilty to the offence.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Georgina Penn, told the court presided over by S.K. Achina that, the complainants in the case, Patricia Enyonam, a radio presenter and Lily Appiah Kubi, a Banker were both robbed of their mobile phones at separate locations, whiles on board a taxi driven by the convict.
She said on June 6 this year, Charles Aboagye, the driver of the said taxi with registration number AS 45412, gave out the vehicle to the convict to work with it, since he was ill.
Addai then took the taxi on a robbery expedition with his two friends, only known as Kofi and Mary, who were in the back seat posing as passengers to outwit their victims.
The court was further told that the convict picked Enyonam on the Kumasi-Sunyani high way, towards Adum at Tanoso, but on their way, Addai diverted from the main route and took a different direction.
Sensing danger, Enyonam attempted to escape by opening the door, but Addai, had by then locked the doors with the central locking system.
Chief Inspector Penn said at a point in the middle of the road, Addai unlocked the doors and threw Enyonam out of the taxi and bolted with her Nokia mobile phone worth GH¢50, which they took from her.
The convict also used the same modus operandi to rob his second victim Lily Appiah Kubi of her Nokia mobile phone, when she boarded his taxi from Abuakwa to Sofoline, both suburbs of Kumasi.
He was arrested after the complainants reported the case to the Sofoline Police, but his two accomplices managed to escape.
