Calm has returned to the Alavanyo-Nkonya communities in the Volta region after heavy deployment of police and military personnel to prevent renewed clashes after an elderly man was shot dead last Thursday. There was sporadic shooting at the outskirts of the two Townships in spite of patrols by security officers but there now seems to be a cease fire. There is a long standing feud between indigenes of Nkonya in the Biakoye district and Alavanyo in the Hohoe district over a parcel of land and this has often sparked clashes in the area.Director of Police Operations, COP John Kudalor told Joy News they are in full control of the situation and anyone who breaches the peace will be swiftly dealt with.According to COP John Kudalor, “Calm has returned to the place but we have to be there to ensure that there is maximum calm and nobody is threatened.”He added that, “residents have asked the factions to withdraw from whatever positions they have taken and I think they’ve obeyed it and then the curfew too is being observed.”
