The Oguaa Mansin Health Insurance Scheme, which is one of the growing health insurance schemes in the Central Region, is currently facing possible ejection from the landlord who gave land for the scheme to be set up at its current location. Briefing the press in Cape Coast last Friday, the Scheme Manager, Amos Asafuah, alias Big Amos, said the landlord had approached him to demand back the land which was released to the Red Cross Society on charity basis. He said currently, the place was too small for the scheme, looking at the rate at which people were joining it, and that currently, they did not have a place to store claims sheets, which is now more than they expected. He said a place released to them by the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly (CCMA) was also being taken away from them, to be given to the Census Secretariat, thereby bringing immense pressure on them to find a place to store their claims sheets. But, Mr. Peter Dery, CCMA Coordinating Director, has given the assurance that the assembly would find a solution to the problem, and that the Scheme Manager had alerted him of the situation at a meeting. He said the problem arose when the real owner of the land passed on, and those who inherited his estates started demanding back the land, which he donated to the Red Cross for free. Talking about the current status of the scheme, Mr. Amos Asafuah said there had been a total transformation of the scheme, citing the establishment of an Audit Department to audit the various schemes, thereby, reducing corruption in the system. He also stated that discrimination in claims payments had been rectified with the new system of payment, where the Regional Manager of the scheme approves the claims list before payment is effected. He said any amount of money released for claims payment was distributed fairly, to ensure that each service provider had its share. Source: The Chronicle
