Ghana and Bayern Munich legend, Samuel Osei Kuffuor, has lashed out at Sky Sports pundit, Jamie Carragher, for comments he made about the AFCON earlier this month.
The ex-Liverpool defender seemingly dismissed the status of the AFCON as a major competition in a now viral submission on Sky after Liverpool’s win over Manchester City.
His comments have since received major backlash, especially from ex-internationals from various African countries.
The latest to respond is Osei Kuffuor, who did not mince words in an interview with Accra based Sporty FM.
"What has Carragher achieved in football? If we mention the best 2,000 defenders in the world, Carragher won't be part!
“Do you think anyone will look at Carragher as a role model [in football] and name [their children] after him?” he added.
The former UEFA Champions League winner with Bayern Munich, went on to question whether Carragher was actually good enough to play for Liverpool.
“If he wasn’t born in Liverpool, I doubt he’d have got the chance to play for them.
“Imagine he was born in Italy, would he have been good enough to play for Milan, Real Madrid, Barcelona or even Bayern Munich? No, he wouldn’t have.”
Carragher has since apologized for the comments, stating his intentions were misrepresented by the language he used.
