The Chief Justice is set to look into claims the 2012 Election Petition judgment was politically influenced.

The Judicial Secretary in an interview with Joy News confirmed receiving a petition from the New Patriotic Party Monday morning, asking them to investigate the allegation.

The party is demanding a judicial enquiry into comments by former Deputy Communications Minister, Victoria Hammah on a leaked secret recording that a colleague minister – Nana Oye Lithur -played a role in the Supreme Court judgment that affirmed John Mahama as winner of the 2012 polls.

But the Judicial Secretary, Alex Opoku Acheampong confirmed the petition will be examined, although he did not give timelines.

Even though Mrs Oye Lithur has denied influencing the outcome of the 2012 presidential election petition, President of the Greater Accra Branch of the Ghana Bar Association, Frank Davies told Joy FM’s Top Story, her denial is not enough to clear the image of the judiciary.

He noted that Victoria Hamah, who made the allegations, has not denied it.

Frank Davies said, “ it is not easy dismissing this as a loose political talk”, and should therefore not end there because Mrs Lithur has denied it. “It is easy to say that it didn’t happen,” he stressed.

He indicated that it is important the issue is interrogated further in order to clear the image of the judicial system which has been battered by the former deputy minister’s allegation.

Davies insisted that the judiciary has been “scandalized” for far too long.

In a related development, Lawrence Quayeson, the ex-driver of the sacked deputy communications minister accused of secretly recording his boss was taken this morning from his last known location by unidentified men and has since not been found as at 5:30pm.

But the Greater Accra Regional Police PRO, Freeman Tettey said no complaint of a missing person has been lodged with the police.

The alleged kidnap was only heard in the news, he said.
