Minister of State and Member of Parliament for Wa Central Rashid Pelpuo has condemned American R&B star Chris Brown for allegedly smoking in public.
He said the act was appalling and unacceptable and Brown must be cautioned or arrested for it.
His comments come shortly after the “With you” hit singer allegedly smoked on stage, substances said to be wee, during the Hope City Concert financed by rlg.
The act has been condemned by civil society organisations and some music fans.
Rashid Pelpuo who was speaking on MultiTV’s AM show said the act offends the country’s laws and Brown must be brought to book.
“This is appalling. It is unacceptable. In Ghana we have laws and one of the laws is to ban drugs be it marijuana, ganja, weed or whatever it is being called.
“It is also internationally recognized that it is part of the group of drugs that should not be taken openly by people.
“So if Chris Brown did that, without recourse to our laws, it is so disturbing.
“…He is bringing in a culture which is contrary to the culture here. I don’t know whether he is not informed about it. But if he is informed and he has done that he has contravened our laws and he has to be cautioned and or arrested.
“…At the point he did it I think the police should have gone for him and I think that is unacceptable,” Pelpuo said.
Organisers of the show Charter House have described the incident as unfortunate.
Director of Production, Nii Ayittey Hammond said the incident is a lesson well learnt and they will put clauses in future contracts with artistes ensure Chris Brown behaviour is not repeated.
Rlg, financiers of the concert have also issued a statement saying it disapproves of smoking.
