The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has charged the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG) to undertake a nationwide customer satisfaction survey to evaluate the quality of services delivered across both public and private sectors.
Speaking at the inauguration of the new Governing Council of the Institute, Haruna Iddrisu revealed that President John Mahama has expressed full confidence in the CIMG and has directed that it lead the initiative.
"The President has every trust and faith in you. He wants a satisfaction survey done in Ghana, undertaken by your enterprise. Are Ghanaians satisfied with the provision of customer service satisfaction, whether by doctors, nurses, telecom providers, or regulators like the Ghana Standards Authority and the Food and Drugs Authority?"
The Minister expressed concern that many service providers, especially in critical sectors such as electricity and water, appear to take consumers for granted.
"In Ghana, when electricity goes off or water is unavailable, who do you talk to? Are you not to be expected that as a customer of that service, someone will talk to you?" he asked.
Haruna Iddrisu emphasized the need for enhanced marketing strategies to reorient service providers toward customer-centered practices. He stressed that the consumer must be treated as a king, as marketing principles teach, and called for systemic reforms to make this a reality.
