The Civil and Local Government Staff Association (CLOGSAG) has withdrawn a petition it filed with the National Labour Commission to compel the Fair Wages Commissions to negotiate salary reviews with them.
CLOGSAG says it decided to withdraw the petition because it has lost confidence in the Labour Commission.
The association also alleged that the Fair Wages Commission has intimidated the Labour Commission with press statements in which the Fair Wages Commission threatened to go court on a matter pending before the Labour Commission.
Acting President of CLOGSAGG, Edward Foli, told Joy News’ Benard Saibu the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission violated an order by the National Labour Commission prohibiting any public comments on the matter.
”The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission has been issuing a series of press statements despite the communication ban imposed on both parties by the National Labour Commission on the matter. This posture by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission is enough threat to fairness and justice regarding the matter before the National Labour Commission,” he said.
The agitations of CLOGSAG on salary reviews have come up in the past, and Monday’s development casts doubts over the resolution of their grievances.
They may also affect the implementation of the Single Spine Salary Structure.
Meanwhile the Labour Commission says the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission stated “the obvious fact” in reports published in the media to the effect that it could go to court to ensure its members’ interests are protected.
“If anybody says that if the Labour Commission compels it to do a particular thing he would go to court, the person has the right to go to court. So such a statement will in no way compel the Labour Commission,” Mireku Boadu, Commissioner of the National Labour Commission told News on Monday.
Labour analyst Austin Gamey is, however, calling for cool heads over the current tension roiling the country’s labour front.
