Accra and Tema are not new to music rivalry. Over the years, the two power hubs of Ghana’s economic growth have been neck and neck in a war of music supremacy.
While Accra will boast of starting the hiplife movement, Tema is undoubtedly the current title holders of the genre.
In Accra, heavyweights such as Samini, Buk Bak, VIP, Eazzy, D-Black and Double, readily come to mind as some of the country’s best lyricists.
But it is Tema that won for the country its first ever Black Entertainment Television (BET) award. Sarkodie, the country’s fastest rapper, did not only win the BET Award, he is currently the hottest emcee.
So just picture Sarkodie leading a veritable pack that includes R2Bees, Kwaw Kese, Tiffany, E.L. and 4x4, facing off in a winner takes all battle of music supremacy.
With two, two-time Ghana Music Awards Artiste of the Year winners – one from each territory – VIP and Sarkodie - leading each pack, patrons are in for a gargantuan night of unrelenting music and entertainment.
The annual Joy FM Nite with the Stars has carved a niche for itself as the only platform where the biggest names in Ghana's music industry mount one stage on one night to do battle.
Artistes across the length and breadth of the country pray and yearn to be a part of a show reputed to be the nation’s biggest music showpiece – some work tirelessly just to get that all important calling.
