Two years after President Mahama appointed Cletus Avoka, Alban Bagbin and E.T. Mensah to execute three presidential projects, the role of the 'Three Wise Men" is fading into the sunset.
Former Lands minister Cletus Avoka who was tasked with seeing to the construction of 200 senior high schools, 10 teacher training colleges and one university for the Eastern Region told Joy News Kwakye Afreh Nuamah that “much of the work is done by the ministries….I am just the focal point”.
The MP for Nadowli Kaleo, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin who was in charge of some health projects was appointed majority leader last July, denying the taskforce of his full contribution.
This leaves Cletus Avoka and former employment minister E.T Mensah, who was tasked with overseeing the building of an international airport, as the remaining task force members.
“Me and E.T Mensah we have been meeting, we have been discussing… I have been linking up with the sector minister from time to time”, Avoka explained.
Their appointment generated controversy, with many questioning the need to put a separate team in place to execute their functions. It was also criticized as a job for the boys by the opposition.
Accounting for two years of his stewardship, Cletus Avoka says the taskforce may appear to be dormant because their work is done in the background and away from the public eye as represented by the media.
“Yes apparently we might have been dormant to the outside world but within the vicinity or the precincts of administration between us where we have our offices in the castle Osu…..we have been coordinating.”
He explained that some 50 Senior High Schools are being built and he is on course to achieving his target.
Asked exactly what his role has been in executing this function, Avoka explained that he meets with officials in the education ministry to agree on which districts qualify for a new SHS.
The Transport Minister Dzifa Ativor in 2013, received construction designs drafted by the China Airport Civil Construction (CACC) for a new airport.
The new airport, to be situated at Prampram in the ”‹Dangbe West District of the Greater Accra Region, is proposed to accommodate 13 parking lots for aircrafts.
