Government on Friday 12th April inaugurated a five-member committee to investigate alleged corruption at the National Youth Employment Program (NYEP), now Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship Development Agency (GYEEDA). Youth and Sports Minister, Elvis Afriyei Ankrah, who inaugurated the committee, at the Press Centre in Accra, tasked them to complete their work within eight weeks and come up with practical recommendations. The five-member committee includes Ferdinand Ghan, who is Chairman of the Committee; Edward Amuzu, a Lawyer, will be the Secretary. Mr. Amuzu is also Lead Consultant for CHRAJ. Mr. Randolf Nsoh, an Accountant, Kwame Edem Senanu, a key member, and Mike K. Garba of the Public Services Commission, complete the list. Elvis Afriyei Ankrah gave the terms of reference of the Committee: “to review the regulatory frame work of GYEEDA formerly NYEP and how it has evolved to its current state; Examine in detail the various modules and partner programmes; “Perform current state analysis of financial management operation of bank accounts, procurement and contracting procedures, disbursements, human resource and other management practices; “Review the capacities of persons entrusted with certain key responsibilities related to the mandate of the programme. “Perform in-depth investigations of possible irregularities of crime and related financial loses and actions taken by management to recover possible embezzlement of money and other assets as the case may be. “Evaluate the administrative and accounting procedures and disbursement procedures that have been followed to review and investigate any potential conflict of interest, among others. The five-member committee will have another two weeks within which to submit their final report to the Minister, after the eight-weeks duration.
