Major Daniel S. Ablorh Quarcoo (Rtd), Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), on Saturday announced that IRS had developed a computerised automated database and management information systems for revenue improvement.
He said the system would enable other offices to assess information at every IRS office.
Speaking at a staff end-of-year-get-together in Accra, Maj Ablorh-Quarcoo said the automation is being piloted in some branches in Accra including IRS headquarters, Kinbu and Osu branches.
He said with the assistance from the government of Ghana and German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) the service would be replicated in the other regions to improve upon the revenue base of the country and generate more revenue.
Maj Ablorh-Quarcoo said despite the agency’s negative deviation posted in a couple of months it showed reliance during the greater part of the year, “The result is that as at November, we have positive deviation of about 13 percent”.
He appealed to the workers to work diligently especially in the areas of Vehicle Income Tax (VIT), Sticker System, Rent Tax and the Taxi Stamp System because the potential of these areas were yet to be tapped.
Maj Ablorh-Quarcoo appealed to all the district managers to ensure that monitoring system was properly supervised.
Ms Gloria Ofori Boadu, Acting Chairman of the Revenue Agencies Governing Board (RAGB), said it was a major responsibility of the agency to expand the tax net to cover many people especially those in the informal sector.
