After several months of hot verbal exchanges, in the media, Ghana’s two most popular boxers on the local scene, Bukom Banku (Brimah Kamoko) and Ayittey Powers have signed on with Box Office Promotions for a non-title bout on April 25 in Accra.

A signing ceremony at the Accra Stadium, earlier today, was characterized by chants of various local cheer songs in the local language Ga by fans of both Banku and Powers. The verbal exchanges between the two boxers ahead of signing the contracts were clean and devoid of the earlier heated taunts that flooded the airwaves.

Both boxers periodically took turns at each other throughout the signing ceremony to brag about their quality. “Right now the fight is on and I have been promised many presents including a house and a car and I will make sure I Ayitey Powers doesn’t go beyond the seventh round. The President John Mahama has promised me a car and while some ministers have assured me of a house as my winning present so I will never disappoint them,” Banku said confidently.

Powers on the other hand said he will stop Banku in the sixth round. “I am the king of pound for pound boxing and I will make sure I teach Banku a lesson. I will knock him out. I won’t say much but will make sure that I shut him up one and for all.”  

Previous attempts by Banku’s former managers Golden Mike Promotions, to put together this bout failed as Powers, who was then in Australia, gave what were considered unrealistic terms. After month of swinging negotiations, both boxers agreed on the Joy Sports Link, a discussion show on Joy FM to fight.

According to Alex Ntiamoah who is in charge of Box Office Promotions, the bout for now has been arranged as a 12-round non title bout while his outfit negotiates with some sanctioning bodies for a title.

At age 33, Bukom Banku (Brimah Kamoko), is undefeated in 26 bouts and has recorded knockouts in 20 of them. He annexed the then vacant WBO Africa Cruiserweight title after a knockout win over Pascal Ndomba of Tanzania in January 2012. Before that, he had a stint with the WBO Africa and WPBF Light heavyweight titles.

Previous attempts by his former promoters, Golden Mike to get a major world title bout with champion Nathan Cleverly failed.

Ayitey Powers  has won 18 times, lost 23 times and drawn once with his biggest achievements being the West African Middleweight title.

 He has lost his last six bouts and among which was the WBA Pan African Cruiserweight titles after losing unanimously to Daniel Baff in Australia last year. Both boxers are expected to share a total purse of over 40,000 Ghana cedis.
